In Finland, two guidelines groups collaborate at the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim. The government funds Current Care that produces national, evidence-based guidelines. EBM Guidelines (www.ebm-guidelines.com) is a collection of 1200 concise and frequently updated guidelines for clinical practice especially in primary care. Both guidelines utilize Cochrane reviews as an important source of evidence.
The EBMeDS (Evidence Based Medicine electronic Decision Support) is a common effort of the two guidelines producing groups. It has developed a generic electronic decision support system, which can be integrated with different patient record systems and that covers a wide variety of clinical topics.
In this meeting we wish to share our experience of the electonic decision support system as a means of implementing systematic reviews into practice, our preliminary research findings of the feasibility of this system and our plans to study the decision support in a randomized controlled trial. |
